Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the art of being in the present moment. This sounds simple, but it's far from easy. We have a human tendency to believe that because we think or feel something, it must be true. If I think that someone disrespected me by cutting me off in traffic, I create a story to support that thought. I can spend the rest of my drive, even the rest of my day, arguing with that person in my head. How many of us carryaround fights with parents or ex's that continue to create unwanted thoughts or emotions? Our emotions and thoughts create feedback loops that can prolong suffering. Mindfulness teaches us to recognize and process our emotions in the present moment. We learn to detach from and observe our thoughts. This frees up our emotional and mental energy to enjoy and solve problems in the present.
